Andrew Lowell, Ph.D.

Andrew Lowell

Prof. Andrew Lowell received a B.S. in chemistry from Washington State University and earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in organic chemistry congruently in 2008 from the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied the total synthesis of purpuromycin under the guidance of Marisa C. Kozlowski. He also worked as a visiting scholar with Yoko Yamakoshi at Penn, working on the synthesis and testing of gadolinium chelators as MRI imaging agents and the synthesis of novel cavitands.

His research is focused on medicinally important new natural products and understanding the biosynthetic pathways responsible for their production, ultimately working to synthesize and derivatize complex natural products to create new and improved medicines. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Life Sciences Institute at the University of Michigan under the mentorship of David Sherman, Ph.D., where he studied biocatalytic methods toward macrolide antibiotics.

Zachary Kohanov

Zachary Kohanov
Zak is a fourth-year graduate student in the Lowell lab. He earned a B.A. in Chemistry at Albion College. Zak enjoys finding new ways to make secondary metabolites for natural products. He is the Lowell Lab Bird Law Specialist.

Logan Breiner

Logan Breiner
Logan is a third-year graduate student from North Carolina. He obtained his BS in chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Asheville. He is currently focused on the semi-synthetic modification of antibiotics.

Cole Gannett

Cole Gannett
Cole is a third-year graduate student from Oregon. He obtained his B.S. in chemistry from the University of Oregon. After graduation, he worked at Tricol Biomedical, Inc. for six years. He is currently focused on the semi-synthetic modification of antibiotics. Cole is the oldest member of the lab and possibly in the world, who knows???

Suzzudul Shuvo

Suzzudul Shuvo
Suzzudul is a first-year graduate student. He graduated from the University of Dhaka from the department of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. He is interested in semi-synthesis of antibiotics. Suzzudul simply loves to smile in pictures.

Timilehin Adegboyega

Timilehin is a first year student working on the identification of neglected natural products.
